I wrote an article – original title, “Il Monte (sempre meno) Bianco” – about the effects of global warming on the Alps’ tallest peak for a special edition of UpClimbing, Italy’s top climbing and alpinism magazine, dedicated to the massif. The piece outlines the dramatic ways in which the Mont Blanc‘s landscape is changing and how this is impacting mountaineering. It concludes that alpinists have a key role to play in raising awareness about the impacts of climate change on high altitude environments by sharing their first-hand experiences of these transformations.
The article, co-authored with Francesco Bassetti of the Euro-Mediterranean Center on Climate Change (CMCC), will be published in UpClimbing’s June 2020 edition.
